The Message Yourself feature on WhatsApp is now being made available to all Android and iOS users, after previously only being part of a beta trial.
Naturally, this is great news for everyone who often uses the app and has been waiting to have this option for a really long time.
So what exactly does the “Message Yourself” feature do?
Well, as the name so clearly suggests, this feature allows users to send messages to themselves, leaving reminders or important notes to themselves, offering quick access to all kinds of files and web links in an easy, straightforward and accessible way.
As for the format, it is a chat only accessible and visible to the user. Aside from that, you will find that it looks just like any other chat, aside from the fact that it will display your name and profile picture, making it very clear that you are about to send a message to yourself.
While this is great for those who use WhatsApp a lot that they finally get to use such a simple feature not previously available on this platform, it’s definitely not an unique feature.
In fact, it has been available for a while on social media platforms such as Telegram and FaceBook, to name just a couple.
On Telegram, for instance, self messages have been possible ever since its launch so it’s nothing out of the ordinary.
WhatsApp has only been publicly testing this feature since October, promising general access to everyone as soon as possible.
At the same time, it’s no secret that some users have managed without it by finding a pretty smart workaround.
More precisely, users would create a group only to then remove the other members and create what is essentially a private self-chat.
While that is undoubtedly pretty creative, you’ll probably be happy to know you won’t have to do that anymore in the near future.
For the time being, this feature is not yet available for testing but it should become public in the following weeks.
