Surely your parents have told you since you were a child that drinking beer, wine, vodka, or pretty much any kind of alcoholic beverage can harm your health. We’re not here to contradict them one bit. But in some situations, and without implying that you’ll become some proclaimed lord of the drinks, alcohol can actually grant you some benefits.
Microsoft News tells us about a large study that found something apparently incredible: alcohol consumption can decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Of course, heading right to the bar and doing your best to empty all the bottles is not a good idea. The study refers to consuming alcohol in a moderate way.
Almost 312,000 people analyzed
The study involved the assessment of almost 312,000 individuals, which means that you should definitely have some faith in the results. The researchers also recommend that the right alcohol consumption needs to be done accompanied by some food. As for what kind of booze was better, it seems that wine takes the cake.
Hao Ma, M.D., Ph.D., the author of the study and a biostatistical analyst from the Tulane University Obesity Research Center located in New Orleans, explained as Microsoft News quotes:
The effects of alcohol consumption on health have been described as a double-edged sword because of its apparent abilities to cut deeply in either direction—harmful or helpful, depending on how it is consumed,
Previous studies have focused on how much people drink and have had mixed results. Very few studies have focused on other drinking details, such as the timing of alcohol intake.
The new study in question was presented at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology, Prevention, Lifestyle&Cardiometabolic Health Conference 2022.
What are your own thoughts on the subject? Do you trust the new study? Would you consider drinking more wine?
